Madden 20 Ratings VS Actual Sportsbook NFL Super Bowl Odds

madden 20 ratings

The Madden 20 ratings are out as the popular football video game is set to launch in just a few weeks. Of course, there was great debate on Twitter and around water coolers as to whether the madden 20 ratings were accurate or not.

We decided to take a look at it from a NJ betting perspective with NJ sportsbook odds, and cross-reference it with the current Super Bowl futures.

Here’s a look at what we discovered, starting with the Top 5 NFL teams according to Madden 20 ratings and Fanduel Sportsbook NFL futures odds:

Madden 20 Ratings – Top 5 NFL Teams

  1. Philadelphia Eagles (89)
  2. Dallas Cowboys (88)
  3. New Orleans Saints (87)
  4. New England Patriots (87)
  5. Green Bay Packers (87)

Philadelphia Eagles – Highest Rated Madden 20 Team

The Eagles are the highest-rated team overall in Madden 20 as they have five players with overall ratings of 90 or more and a pair of others at 89. That includes five players on the lines of scrimmage like Fletcher Cox and Jason Kelce.

What’s interesting is that while the Eagles are the top-rated team in Madden, the oddsmakers don’t see them as the top-rated team in football.

FanDuel doesn’t even have them in their top 5 futures champion odds, and they are +1300 at DraftKings.  The Eagles are at +1400 at PointsBet to win the Super Bowl next season, which puts them fifth in line behind the New England Patriots (+700), Kansas City Chiefs (+800), New Orleans Saints (+900) and Los Angeles Rams (+1000).

Carson Wentz Madden 20 Ratings Snub?

However, quarterback Carson Wentz was one of the most criticized ratings as he’s merely at 82; former Eagles (and now Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback) Nick Foles is a 77.

There was an immediate uproar among NFL fans and sports experts over the incredibly low grade for Carson Wentz. The Eagles star quarterback received a rating of 82 overall, tying Wentz for the 14th best rated signal-caller on Madden 20.

So how is this possible? How did the former MVP candidate receive such a low score?

CONSPIRACY ALERT:
EA Sports Ratings Guy is a Cowboys Fan!

According to a variety of Reddit users, Dustin Smith (@Equipment_Guru) is the head rating adjuster for EA Sports and over the years, he has been known to show a biased propensity for ranking Cowboys players higher than they  should be. Not cool EA, not cool.

Green Packers A Surprising Top 5 Rating

One of the biggest discrepancies on the board is the Packers, who are rated as the fifth-best team by Madden 20 but are actually No. 10 in line in terms of the odds to win it all.

The Packers obviously have some talented players, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is a 90. Surprisingly, it’s actually Davante Adams who is the highest-rated player on their offense. On defense, they have a couple of other players who are among the highest-rated at their position such as safety Adrian Amos Jr. (87) and Mike Daniels (87).

Even so, the oddsmakers know this team has a lot of work to do. They’re posted at +1900 at FanDuel because they have a new head coach, a lot of new incoming faces on the roster and they’re in a difficult division.

Madden 20, Oddsmakers Agree On Worst Team

It looks like everyone can agree on one thing: the Miami Dolphins are the worst team in football.

In terms of the Madden 20 ratings, the Dolphins are the worst team overall. As a team, they’re rated 74 with the offense coming in at 72 and the defense at 69. Of course, having Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen as your two lead quarterbacks is a big part of the problem. Kenny Stills (84) is their highest rated skill position player on offense.

As far as the oddsmakers are concerned, the Dolphins are the longest shot to win Super Bowl 54 as they’re at +15000 both at FanDuel and PointsBet sportsbooks.

New York Giants Are Second-Lowest Rated Team

Many people have been critical of the Giants this offseason and you can add the people who do the Madden 20 ratings to the list. As a team, they’re rated a 77, which is the second-worst mark on the board. And as far as defenses go, their 72 rating ties them with Miami as the worst in the game.

The Giants defense lost some key contributors from last season as Olivier Vernon, who led the team in sacks last season, was traded away to Cleveland. The team’s leading tackler – Landon Collins – was also allowed to leave via free agency (Washington Redskins).

Although the Madden 20 outlook is bleak, the Giants are not viewed as poorly by the oddsmakers. The Giants are at +7000 to win the Super Bowl at both PointsBet and FanDuel. That’s not exactly a vote of confidence either but there are eight teams with worse odds to win it all.

New England Patriots Roster Receivers An 87

The New England Patriots come in with the fourth-best roster, according to the Madden 20 ratings as they received an 87. That’s not overly surprising as they do appear to have less superstars than the average team as they rely on a lot of under-the-radar players and blue-collar contributors.

Their offense receives a 91 – the second-best mark in the league – with Tom Brady leading the way with a 96. Meanwhile, the defense comes in at an 84. It’s still a bit surprising to see a team like the Dallas Cowboys above them as Dallas is the second-best ranked team.

As for the oddsmakers, you can take a good guess to figure out what they think. New England is the favorite in almost every book at about +700.

  1. New England Patriots +700
  2. Los Angeles Rams +1000
  3. Philadelphia Eagles +1300
  4. Indianapolis Colts +1400
  5. Chicago Bears +1800
