UFC 256 Main Event Betting Tips
Sports betting tips for first-time MMA bettors, particularly those familiar with boxing:
Fights ending inside the distance have a betting distinction. A submission is the equivalent of a boxer or a boxer’s corner stopping the fight but is treated differently.
In a boxing prop, that’s a TKO. In the MMA prop, a submission is its own category. A tapout makes the KO/TKO bet a losing one.
This forces the MMA bettor to make a tough decision regarding the method of victory, but also why it pays well.
As for the card, Figueiredo has been an active fighter. This is his fourth fight of the year.
He recorded a pair of 2020 triumphs over Joseph Benavidez to cement the flyweight title. The first, in February, did not count because he did not make weight.
In the July rematch, Figueiredo took care of business with a first-round submission triumph via rear-naked choke. He repeated the method, via guillotine, in halting Alex Perez in less than two minutes just three weeks ago.
And now…he’s back.
Fugueiredo has won five straight since losing to Jussier Formiga in 2019.
Moreno has a victory over Formiga, thus has an edge in recent common opponents.
He appeared in the prelim section of 255, stopping Brandon Royval with punches with just one second left in the opening round.
Co-Main Event UFC 256
In the co-main, Ferguson has had time to sort out his feelings and regroup after losing to Justin Gaethje in UFC’s comeback event in May. The setback derailed a Ferguson-Khabib Nurmagomedov fight for the sixth time. And it was Gaethje who got that assignment, albeit a losing one, when he faced the UFC’s top pound-for-pound fighter in October.
- Betting opportunities abound throughout the card.
- The best moneyline matchup is Holland versus Souza, a near pick-em.
In the prelims, Mackenzie Dern and Virna Jandiroba give an example of betting flexibility.
Dern on the moneyline is a little pricey, but she would return +170 for a submission triumph. Dern has captured five of her last seven by submission. Take either fighter to win by submission and it’s +120, still a profit.
On the other side, Jandiroba is a respectable longshot at +160. She comes off a one-round submission triumph over Felice Herrig and has captured her last two via submission, which was her prime victory vehicle prior to joining UFC.
