It was an all-even type of week for us with our college picks last week as we went 1-1-1. The Southern Miss-Alabama over cashed for us, we pushed the Charlotte-Clemson total and lost on Georgia -14. How will we do with our Week 4 NFL picks?
This week, we’re back on the grind with our NFL picks. Let’s take a look at the Week 4 card to see if we can come up with some week 4 NFL picks:
Cincinnati Bengals at Pittsburgh Steelers
Odds: Steelers -4 at PointsBet
Date: Monday, September 30th
We’re seeing a bit of an overreaction as NJ online sports betting fans here as the Steelers are 0-3 and are viewed as a team that’s toiling. The Bengals are also 0-3 but I view them as a significantly inferior squad.
While it’s true that Mason Rudolph struggled in his first start last week, keep in mind that it came on the road against the San Francisco 49ers, whose defense has been stellar so far this season.
They haven’t allowed more than 20 points in game. Rudolph should fare much better at home against a Bengals defense that has been quite soft so far this season. Cincinnati gave up 41 to San Francisco in Week 2 and was quite lucky to only give up 21 to the Bills last Sunday. Buffalo outgained them 416-306 in yards, 36:54-23:06 in time of possession and had eight more first downs.
Pittsburgh has the better of the two defenses in this spot, they’re at home and they should finally get their offense going against a Bengals side that really hasn’t shown me much this season. The Bengals will be without A.J. Green, they have injuries on the offensive line and are averaging just 42.0 rushing yards per game. They’re not going on the road with a feeble ground game and winning.
NJ Betting Pick: Steelers -4.5
Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals
Odds: Seahawks -4 at PointsBet
Date: Sunday, September 29th
I like the Seahawks on the side here but I think the better play is the over. Arizona is a team that plays at a fast pace as they ran 82 plays in Week 1, 54 in Week 2 and 73 in Week 3. They’re also not a team that’s running the ball a lot. With lots of throws, that gives the over more of a chance to connect. But, our week 4 NFL picks won’t be affected by the past.
In Week 4, they’re hosting the Seattle Seahawks, who are having some issues on the defensive side of the ball. In Week 1, they allowed Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton to throw for a career-high 417 yards.
In Week 2, they gave up 26 points to the Mason Rudolph-led Pittsburgh Steelers and in Week 3, they allowed 33 points to the Teddy Bridgewater-led New Orleans Saints. Something just isn’t quite right with this unit. They have just six sacks so far and just one interception.
The good news is their offense is mostly doing well. They had 515 yards on Sunday but turnovers and special teams did them in. They’ve now scored 55 points in the last two weeks and now get to face a Cardinals team that was carved up by backup Kyle Allen.
I’m expecting plenty of points in this one, so bet the over.
NJ Betting Pick: Over 47
Washington Redskins at New York Giants
Odds: Giants -2.5 at PointsBet
Date: Sunday, September 29th
The math here is quite simple for our week 4 NFL picks: the Redskins are a lifeless franchise right now while the Giants just got a big shot in the arm with Daniel Jones. He had four touchdowns last week as the Giants came back from 18 down to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road.
The Giants still have plenty of flaws and Saquon Barkley is out, but they’re the better team here because of Jones. I don’t expect Jones to thrive like he did last week in each and every week, but Washington’s defense has had a tough time pressuring quarterbacks.
They had just two sacks in their first two games. They’re also really struggling to run the ball, which always makes it tough to win the road. It’s a short number with the Giants but Jones has given them life.
Look for the Redskins to make a similar change after a couple more losses with Case Keenum under center.
NJ Betting Pick: Giants -2.5
Other Things To Watch This Week
No. 18 Virginia at No. 10 Notre Dame – The Fighting Irish are coming off a contest where they nearly went on the road and knocked off No. 3 Georgia. Now they host the ACC’s second-best team as Virginia visits. Virginia is 4-0 but it’s worth noting they trailed Old Dominion for most of their game last week before waking up late to take control. Another effort like that and they’ll get blown out this week.
MMA Events – We’ve got a couple of mixed martial arts cards to keep an eye on this weekend as we have Bellator 227 (on Friday) and Bellator 228 (on Saturday), along with UFC Fight Night: Hermansson vs. Cannonier. Bellator 227’s main event will feature Benson Henderson, who used to be the UFC’s Lightweight Champion. He’ll take on Myles Jury, who also left the UFC. He lost four of his last six fights there and will be making his Bellator debut.
